ProfflowBot

1. What it reads

ProfflowBot reads three public documents that every Shopify storefront serves to anyone: /robots.txt, /meta.json (the shop’s name, country, currency and the countries it ships to) and /products.json (the published catalogue with its prices). It does not crawl pages, log in, add anything to a cart, or read customers, orders or anything behind a password.

2. When it reads

Only when somebody asks for it: when a visitor types a store’s address into the store check. One request per document, with a short timeout and a size limit. A report is held in memory for up to 30 minutes so a shared link does not read the store again, and it is not written to a database.

3. How it identifies itself

Every request carries the User-Agent ProfflowBot/1.0 (+https://profflow.co/bot) — this page.

4. How to stop it

ProfflowBot reads /robots.txt first and follows it. To keep it away from your catalogue, add:

User-agent: ProfflowBot
Disallow: /products.json
Disallow: /meta.json

From then on the store check answers that the store asks automated readers not to read its catalogue, and reads nothing.
